Then, once a quarter, we spend about 2 hours in what we call Hunger Games. Here, we discuss all the results of the prior quarter as well as plan for all of the great things we’ll be doing in the upcoming quarter. The photo is of one such Hunger Games.

Viget

WHAT THAT IMAGE?

Since starting in 1999 we had a goal to open an office in Boulder which we eventually did in 2010.  To celebrate 15 years we flew our Durham & DC offices out for 4 days & 3 nights in the Rocky Mountains.  It was more than just a company retreat, it was a celebration of all the hard work that went into building a team and company to be proud of.  See below for a fun comparison of the two photos, 1999 was the original Viget team and 2015 shows the current team in the same spot!

WHY THAT IMAGE?

As the work week ends, we often meet in the kitchen for a happy hour to share snacks, drinks and friendship.  At the end of hard weeks it is a great way start to unplug and relax, at the end of big weeks it is a time to celebrate.  All levels of people come and socialize, which helps increase communication across teams and reinforce the open nature of the company.  I also like this picture since it shows the Chicago flag signs that a team here built, painted and hung during one of our "Someday" creative project days.

Highland Solutions

Highland Solutions

WHY THAT IMAGE?

We do an all team sales and capacity planning meeting all crammed into a little meeting room each Monday morning using only post-it notes and painters tape. It started out of sheer desperation in trying to schedule well using digital tools, and became such an effective way to communicate and plan that now almost the entire company shows up in person or remotely to move around stickies and sync up for the week. It's a surprisingly fun 30 minutes, and represents, to me, our aspirations to transparency and community.
